Bride

It was one of those days were anything and everything that could go wrong did. Little did I know my poor Lola was involved in a hit and run accident, which prompted a very nasty and very public argument with my stepfather, followed by an awful parent teacher night.  Needless to say, when Tamara called to remind me about meeting “Aisya,” I said whatever I could to get out of it.  As you all know, once my mood turns black, there is little any one can do or say to fix it. Tamara however was undeterred by my excuses and began to hammer away at my resolve with her normal uncompromising determination.  Then the last straw...

“Wen seriously? She drove ALL the way from Washington D.C. JUST to meet you!”

Guilt does it everytime.

I relented and resigned myself to what I knew would be a catastrophic night.  As soon as I laid eyes on her, I began to panic.  Even though it wasn't like the movies where the skies open up and a choir of angels sing "hallelujah, there was a definite attraction and it was undeniable.  She seemed extremely well put together, confident and sexy; all of the things I was not feeling at the moment.  Instead, I wore my insecurity like a ninth grader on their first day of high school.

Later on at the club, I was extremely tense and irritated.  The loud thumping music, the oppressive heat, and the crowds all worked together to get on my nerves.  Then as luck would have it, someone bumped into me and stepped on my foot!

As I opened my mouth to let that poor unfortunate soul have it, Aisya said,         "Hey, why are you getting so mad? It's a club, people are GOING to bump into you."

At that moment, I looked at her at laughed...really laughed for the first time that night. It was such a simple statement but it made all the difference.  Once I stopped taking myself so seriously, everything fell into place. In a tightly packed place with hundreds of  (rude) people, we truly only saw each other.  We spent the rest of the night talking and laughing.

So, after several billion blackberry messages, and several hundred thousand miles, we have been inseparable ever since.
